Randy Lopez, Former Client of Ad Agency G&M Plumbing Joins Shop as Partner/CMO. Agency Staffers Still Treating Him Like The Client.
MANHATTAN BEACH–Former V.P. of Marketing at Del Taco and veteran restaurant marketing executive has assumed the top post at G&M Plumbing, the ad agency that worked for Mr. Lopez while he was at Del Taco. Even though he is now part of the agency, staffers are having trouble getting used to the idea that he’s not their client anymore.
“It’s just plain weird,” said an anonymous G&M production manager. “I see him walking down the hallway and think to myself ‘Oh geez, the client’s here. Better clean up my office,” then I realize he works with us now,” she said.
In another instance, an assistant overheard Mr. Lopez mention that he had to skip breakfast that morning. The assistant bolted out of the office and returned slightly out of breath with an assortment of muffins and scones.
The odd behavior has not been lost on Mr. Lopez. “I know it may take some getting used to for them to see me as part of their team. But I’m looking forward to the day our receptionist doesn’t ask me if I want my parking validated when I leave the office.”
