AT&T Forces G&M to Also Report to BBDO

Manhattan Beach–Shortly after announcing that AT&T roster shop, GSD&M will now report to BBDO, the telecommunications giant announced another unusual move. Southern California creative agency G&M Plumbing must also report directly to BBDO.

The announcement was quite a shock to G&M principals. Agency co-founder Glenn Miller said, “First of all, we’re an ad agency so why would we report to another ad agency? And second, we don’t even work with AT&T. They’re not even my wireless carrier.” Although confused by AT&T’s decision, Miller added “That being said, we will certainly comply. I mean, they’re AT&T. They’re an iconic brand and we look forward to our new relationship with them. Whatever that means.”

The new agency pecking order will take effect immediately. Co-founder Mickey Taylor was still a little unclear on the new protocol, “So, I guess we’ll be sending David Lubars some scripts we’re doing for some of other clients, right? I have calls into Lubars and Roy Spence at GSD&M to find out how this whole thing is supposed to work but neither one of them have called me back yet.”

Calls to AT&T were not returned but a source at the company said “Hey, we’re AT&T, we can make our agencies jump through hoops. Seriously, we’ve made our agencies jump through real hoops. It was pretty funny to watch.”
